What to Expect
Music therapy sessions are held either online or in my studio. The first one or two sessions will involve an assessment process during which we will discuss your therapeutic goals, explore different types of music therapy interventions, and/or listen to and analyze examples of music which are meaningful to you.
As the sessions progress, we will address your goals through a combination of music therapy interventions: live music making, singing relevant songs, improvising on percussion or pitched instruments, therapeutic instruction, recording, and/or engaging in songwriting or composition.
Assignments will likely be suggested for work between sessions, but the direction of the therapy is always up tothe client. I do not diagnose and I do not prescribe.
We listen. We play. We discuss. Sometimes we improvise and record, and then discuss what we did.
Sessions typically last 90 minutes.
All professional agreements and music therapy interventions adhere to the AMTA Standards of Professional Practice and Code of Ethics. Everything said and done in a session is strictly confidential.
